C'mon you guys, if you didn't laugh at that then I quit!
Okay here are the basics, tortillas are great and overpriced considering how bloody easy they are to make. Normally I don't bother buying tortillas because they never last longer than a day in my house. So when that lightbulb finally came on that I could just make them, like the cooking ninja that I am, I obviously said "it's time to taco".
It might be a cultural sin for me to enjoy wheat tortillas more than I enjoy corn tortillas but I'm just a girl, looking at her taco, hoping the tortilla won't give way and spill all it's contents onto the plate. You know what I mean?
So here my friend is the recipe to a solid tortilla that you can make in 20mins if you work fast and efficiently. Probably longer if you have people over and are drinking wine.
If you want to know what I eat in my tortillas then clickity-click this link to my go my "Fool proof taco fillings garunteed to wow any basic biddy.". Don't be offended, I also fall into that category.
Let's make tortillas!
What you need
2 cups of plain flour
1/2 tsp salt (I used flakey but you can use whatever)
3/4 cup water
3 tbls olive oil
What to do
1. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl.
2. add in water and olive oil then stir until it comes together as a workable dough.
3. Turn it onto a floured bench and knead for 10-ish minutes until the dough is nice and smooth.
4. Cover your cute little dough ball with a towel and allow to rest for at least 10mins.
During this time I prepared everything for the rest of my tacos, which just incase you need another link... here it is.
5. Once your dough has been rested, cut it into 8 pieces (more if you want smaller "taco sized" wraps.
6. Form each little dough into a ball then roll out into thin tortillas, about 15cm in diameter.
7. Heat up a heavy based skillet or fry pan. If you have non stick you can leave it ungreased, otherwise just wipe some oil around the pan.
8. Cook your raw tortillas 1min each side or until brown spots start to form.
9. Remove from pan and fill your fav fillings.
Use these wraps for
- Breakfast wraps with scrambled or fried eggs
- Lunch wraps with your fav deli meat or fried beans
- Quesadillas, fill em with cheese and dip em in salsa
- Tacos, there's no need to taco-bout it
- Dinner wraps? Same as breakfast and lunch wraps I guess.
...and here's a ball of dough for you to look at because it was just too beautiful not to include.
As always if you make these tortillas, send me a pic and if you have any questions holla at me here, via email, instagram or facebook.
Happy Eating!
